The presence of these yellow edges is the best way to distinguish early tomato blight from late tomato blight, and septoria leaf spot as well. It's the same fungus that causes potato blight, so if you find blight on your spuds, it's extremely likely it will appear on your tomatoes, particularly those that are grown outdoors. Late blight, a disease that strikes tomatoes and potatoes, can quickly ruin an entire crop — and infect other plants as well.
It can affect almost all parts of the tomato plants, including the leaves, stems, and fruits.
With early blight, you'll notice that there are some black or brown spots on the fruit and/or on the leaves, says stubblefield. The plants may not die, but they will be weakened and will set fewer tomatoes than normal. Tomato blight is a fungal condition that can devastate and destroy otherwise healthy tomato plants.
